POSITION: Accountant (start-up)
LOCATION: Mississauga, ON/hybrid/remote

This is not a typical accounting role.

You’ll be joining a newly launched, high-growth HVAC business at the ground floor—where your work will directly shape financial processes, reporting structure, and operational efficiency. While the company has the agility and pace of a start-up, it benefits from the financial backing, stability, and executive support of a well-established parent organization.

This is an ideal opportunity for an Accountant who enjoys variety, ownership, and building something from the ground up—without the risk typically associated with early-stage companies.

The first 6 months will be based out of the parent company’s HQ and then flexibility can be offered from then on.

The Role:
As the Accountant, you will take ownership of full-cycle accounting while supporting day-to-day financial operations. You’ll work closely with sales leadership and have direct access to the CFO of the parent company for guidance, mentorship, and strategic alignment.

This role requires a hands-on, adaptable professional who is comfortable wearing multiple hats and thrives in a dynamic environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full-Cycle Accounting
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes end-to-end
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and integrity
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
Billing, Collections & Cash Flow
  • Oversee invoicing and ensure timely, accurate billing
  • Manage collections and follow up on outstanding receivables
  • Support cash flow tracking and reporting
Payroll & Compliance
  • Process payroll and ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Administer and remit payroll deductions
  • Manage HST filings and other sales tax requirements
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations
Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare internal financial reports and summaries
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Assist leadership with financial insights to support decision-making
Process Building & Improvement
  • Help establish and refine accounting processes, controls, and systems
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency as the business scales
  • Contribute to ERP/accounting system enhancements as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3-6+ years of accounting experience (full-cycle preferred)
  • CPA designation (completed or in progress) is an asset
  • Experience in a small company or entrepreneurial environment is an asset
  • Strong understanding of AR, AP, payroll, and sales tax (HST)
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar ERP systems)
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Self-starter with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
Compensation:
75-85K base salary (based on experience)
