MacDonald Search Group has been asked by our high-growth Canadian food manufacturing client to recruit a Director of Sales - Private Label. The role is focused on driving large-scale contract manufacturing partnerships with Tier-1 retailers across North America, leveraging best-in-class product development, sourcing, and production capabilities to deliver high-volume store brand solutions.
Some of what you will do:
- Identify, target, and win new private label and contract manufacturing opportunities across Canada and the United States
- Develop and execute a strategic business development plan to achieve aggressive revenue and capacity utilization targets
- Lead end-to-end RFP processes, coordinating cross-functional teams across product development, operations, supply chain, and finance
- Build and maintain senior-level relationships with key decision-makers at retailers, CPG brands, and distribution partners
- Collaborate with innovation teams to position existing and custom product solutions against retailer benchmarks
- Negotiate multi-year supply agreements, including pricing, MOQs, lead times, and packaging commitments
- Act as the primary commercial lead between external partners and internal teams to deliver scalable, profitable solutions
- Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities
- Maintain accurate forecasting, pipeline management, and reporting discipline
You should have the following:
- 5+ years of CPG sales experience, with direct exposure to private label or contract manufacturing environments
- Strong understanding of the Canadian and U.S. grocery landscape and retailer expectations for store brands
- Proven ability to win new business and grow top-line revenue in complex, multi-stakeholder sales environments
- Experience working with brokers and managing indirect sales channels
- Strong financial acumen, including understanding of COGS, margin structure, and contract economics
- Ability to manage complex projects and coordinate cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with food manufacturing processes and certifications (e.g., SQF, BRC)
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
- Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable operating in a high-travel, performance-driven role
