Starting out as a 5-acre hobby farm over 40 years ago, our client now has grown to over 600 acres cultivating high-quality broadleaf evergreens, conifers, deciduous shrubs, trees, perennials and blueberry plants. Due to continued growth, our client is adding an Assistant Grower to the team with the intent of this position developing into a Lead Grower. Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Inspection of incoming liners for potting to ensure company standards are met
  • Scheduling of pruning and spacing, weed control procedures, pesticide applications and cleanliness
  • Work close with Lead Grower with assignment of crops to greenhouses or outside growing area
  • Supervise crew sizes of between 1 – 15 employees
  • Year-round ongoing instruction of workers and job performance reviews
  • Set clear expectations to employees and provide valuable feedback and support
  • Follow guidelines from Environment Canada and Occupational Health and Safety to ensure a safe and rewarding place of employment for all staff
What We’re Looking For Includes:
  • Diploma/Degree in agriculture/horticulture and/or land related subject or a combination of education and experience
  • Experience leading and developing a team
  • Results oriented, self-starter with a positive outlook
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Outlook
  • Pesticide license desirable
  • Excellent English both verbal and written
