MacDonald Search Group is partnering with an established and growing Canadian food manufacturer to recruit a Controller for its Mississauga operation.
This is a hands-on senior finance opportunity for an experienced Controller who understands the realities of a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of the company's financial reporting, controls, cost accounting, cash management and compliance while serving as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller will be the senior financial leader within the business and will oversee a small finance team.
The mandate combines strong technical accounting and financial controls with the commercial understanding required to connect manufacturing performance to financial results.

This is a hands-on senior finance opportunity for an experienced Controller who understands the realities of a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of the company's financial reporting, controls, cost accounting, cash management and compliance while serving as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller will be the senior financial leader within the business and will oversee a small finance team.
The mandate combines strong technical accounting and financial controls with the commercial understanding required to connect manufacturing performance to financial results.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting, including income statements and balance sheets.
- Lead G/L analysis, reconciliations and month-end close.
- Partner cross-functionally to develop the annual operating budget.
- Manage product-level P&Ls, costing and gross-margin performance.
- Maintain rigorous oversight of inventory valuation and manufacturing cost accounting.
- Manage cash-flow forecasting, working capital and collections.
- Oversee HST/GST filings, Canadian tax requirements and audit readiness.
- Support SR&ED tax-credit processes.
- Work directly with external auditors and ensure financial reporting complies with ASPE.
- Liaise with banking and insurance partners.
- Provide financial insight and leadership as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Coach and develop a team of two direct reports.
The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including Controller-level responsibility within a manufacturing environment.
Experience within CPG or food manufacturing would be particularly attractive.
You should also bring:
- CPA designation.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Strong manufacturing accounting and product-costing knowledge.
- Experience leading and developing direct reports.
- Previous participation on a senior or operational leadership team.
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting and tax requirements.
- Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP; macro knowledge is an asset.
- Experience with SAP.
- Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving capabilities.
