MacDonald Search Group has been asked by our European medical cannabis cultivation client to recruit a Director of Cultivation to lead large-scale medical cannabis production operations in Portugal.
This is a rare international leadership opportunity for an experienced cultivation professional with a proven track record of producing premium-quality medical cannabis at scale. The successful candidate will play a key role in optimizing cultivation performance, mentoring cultivation teams, and ensuring compliance with some of the world's most stringent medical cannabis production standards.
English is the language of business, other languages are nice to have but not mandatory.
Some of what you will do:
- Lead cultivation operations within a large-scale medical cannabis production facility
- Oversee cultivation strategy, crop performance, yield optimization, quality standards, and operational execution
- Collaborate closely with horticulture, operations, quality assurance, and regulatory teams to ensure consistent production outcomes
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across cultivation, irrigation, environmental controls, and plant health programs
- Develop and implement cultivation protocols aligned with pharmaceutical-grade production standards
- Manage and mentor cultivation personnel while building a high-performance, collaborative culture
- Monitor crop performance, environmental conditions, nutrient programs, and integrated pest management strategies
- Lead problem-solving efforts related to crop quality, yield, cultivation efficiency, and facility performance
- Support facility expansion, process optimization, and future growth initiatives
- Ensure compliance with applicable cultivation, quality, and regulatory requirements
- Medical Grade cannabis cultivation leadership experience within commercial-scale operations
- Demonstrated success producing premium-quality cannabis at scale
- Experience operating within highly regulated cultivation environments
- Strong understanding of irrigation systems, environmental controls, plant nutrition, and cultivation best practices
- Experience collaborating with Quality Assurance and regulatory teams
- Proven leadership experience managing cultivation teams and driving operational excellence
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making capabilities
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational execution
- Medical cannabis cultivation experience strongly preferred
- Experience within pharmaceutical-grade, GMP, GACP, or highly regulated agricultural environments considered an asset
