Director of Sales - Natural Foods

Our client is a Canadian Employer of Choice and a Certified B Corp competing in the better for you category of food products across North America. Due to a recent organizational change, we are seeking a strong Director of Sales to lead their field force across the country. To be successful in this role you will have highly effective people management, coaching, motivation, performance monitoring, objective/budget setting, developing and mentoring skills.

Some of what you will do in this role includes:
  • Manage/work closely with the Key Account Management and Sales team by guiding, mentoring and coaching them in attaining their sales goals.
  • Assess team strengths and weakness and build plans/programs to harness the strength and correct weaknesses
  • Recruit/retain/replace as necessary
  • Plan and direct sales team training
  • Leads the daily sales huddles and weekly sales meetings
  • Determines and tracks commissions and bonus payments
  • Own recruiting, objectives setting, coaching and performance monitoring of sales representatives
  • Build and promote strong, long-lasting customer relationships by partnering with them and understanding their needs
  • Present sales, revenue and expenses reports and realistic forecasts to the management team
  • Provide analytics to the sales team to ensure all sales opportunities are maximized
  • Effective expense management including trade spend with the sales team
  • Effectively building annual sales budgets, establishing targets and executing sales plans
  • Attend trade meetings and industry conventions as required
  • Prepare a variety of status reports, including daily activity, call cycle, follow-up, and adherence to goals.
  • Communicate new product opportunities, special developments, information, feedback gathered through field activity to appropriate company staff.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years Sales Management and leadership experience in the grocery industry, ideally within the Health Food segment.
  • Exemplary people management skills and customer service skills
  • Strong business sense and industry expertise
  • Experience in all aspects of planning and implementing sales strategy
  • Experience in managing and directing a sales team
  • Excellent customer relations skills with willingness to do what it takes.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to turn analyses into effective strategies and plans.
  • Ability to prioritize needs and meet deadlines
  • Strong time management skills, good organization and ability to handle administrative requirements.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent sales and marketing skills with proven follow through.
  • High proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Education: post-secondary education preferably a degree in marketing/sales business or related professional qualification
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract.
  • Access to a vehicle appropriate for the role.
