POSITION: Engineering Manager, Controls
LOCATION: Greater London Area, Ontario (onsite position)

MacDonald Search Group is a national permanent placement recruiting firm and we recruit on behalf of hiring companies.

Our client is an OEM that designs and builds highly automated industrial equipment and engineer intelligent, robotics-integrated processing systems and they are on the hunt for a new Engineering Manager to manage the controls team comprised of 4 direct reports.

The ideal candidate is an engineering leader with proven success in managing automation teams, a passion for building products, and has a technical expertise in Allen-Bradley and or Beckhoff platforms. MUST HAVE previous people leadership experience of direct reports.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and grow a team of automation and controls engineers.
  • Coach, mentor, and build team capability to support business growth.
  • Establish the technical direction and operating standards for the controls function.
  • Manage resource planning and project priorities to ensure strong delivery performance.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of machine control systems — from architecture and programming through commissioning and field support.
  • Provide hands-on guidance in PLC/HMI development across major industrial platforms (Allen-Bradley and Beckhoff environments).
  • Lead resolution of complex technical challenges across design and installation phases.
  • Partner with service, engineering, and commercial teams to deliver high-performance automation systems.
  • Engage with customers as needed to support installations and solve technical issues.
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in engineering, Automation, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership or managerial role - excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire, coach and manage a team
  • Deep expertise in industrial automation and control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and field devices
  • Strong technical problem solver who moves comfortably between PLC/HMI design, program leadership, and customer discussions
  • Proven expertise in robotics - experience in programming,
    troubleshooting, and optimizing robotic systems
  • Willingness to travel to client sites for project installations, commissioning, and support within North America as needed.
Compensation package includes:
  • 100-120K base salary (based on experience)
