Our client, is just beginning the FEED stage for a major project that is expected to take the next four years to complete. As the project owner, they have engaged Sean Baker of MacDonald Search Group to assist them in recruiting a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join the project team in Edmonton, Alberta. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will have oversight of areas such as costs, schedules, quality, reporting, and overall coordination for the engineering activities, procurement, and construction phases of her/his assigned project areas.

Specifically the successful candidate will:
  • Lead the Engineering Team to maintain the project execution philosophy, policies, and planning;
  • Ensure appropriate project controls are in place and analyzed such that real time knowledge of project execution is available, understood, and acted upon;
  • Liaise closely with Owners Engineer, EPC, and other stakeholders over the lifecycle of the project.
  • Contribute to problem resolution for the project as a whole by sharing of experience and expertise;
  • Drawing on all available expertise and resources, make decisions and resolve execution issues to ensure the project remains on track, balancing cost, schedule and quality appropriately and in line with project philosophy;
Qualifications:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree, P-Eng. or eligible for certification with APEGA
  • Ten plus years of experience in project management and engineering on large scale multi-year projects;
  • Thorough knowledge in areas of fixed & rotating equipment, steam, piping
  • A team player, willing to continuously and proactively collaborate, share, and seek information and guidance;
  • Strategic thinking and planning ability to recognize when detailed information is required and interpret that detail to evaluate project progress and issues;
  • Willing to make decisions, in line with the project philosophy and execution plans;
  • Must possess foresight and wisdom to ensure that issues with cross-silo implications are addressed in a timely and open manner;
