Our client has asked Sean Baker of MacDonald Search Group to assist them in the search for an Operations Manager. In this role you will manage the assets and day to day operations, lead an experienced team, and oversee the safety and compliance, and customer service elements of a Calgary, Alberta based trucking company.

We are looking for someone with great experience from a management level position within an asset-based trucking company. Ultimately, we would like to find a special someone who knows the ins and outs of specialized heavy-lift or over dimensional equipment. But if you do not have that, someone who understands the utilization of a variety of different types of trailers (decks, drop-decks, step-decks, etc), project-based work opposed to repetitive lanes or scheduled dedicated trucking. We are looking for a person that has big picture thinking that knows how to look at the work scheduled for the future, that can mobilize a highly skilled team to achieve operational objectives.


What you will be doing:
  • Provide a safe and injury free workplace and comply with all provincial and state regulations, along with company policies and procedures
  • Support efforts to build high-performing teams
  • Provide operational support to sales team and conduct client or site visits as needed
  • Strive for excellence in customer satisfaction
  • Ensure your team completes all work accurately and in a timely manner
  • Leadership of the people that make things happen including project planning, order entry, dispatching, equipment maintenance, billing, customer service and drivers.
  • Assist in the interview process, training, developing staff skill sets and coaching for all support staff and drivers within their area of responsibility
  • Scheduling, managing support staff, including drivers and equipment resources ensuring applicable coverage during vacations and holidays.
  • Monitor service levels to ensure customer expectations are met and or exceeded
  • Support and enforce Company’s Health and Safety compliance policies


Who you are:

As an experienced manager from trucking, you must be passionate about the industry, results focused and entrepreneurial with strong communications skills. Through your progressive leadership experiences, you will have created a passion for surpassing financial and service objectives via a combination of service delivery and design/implementation of initiatives that effectively increase productivity, resulting in measurable improvements to the bottom line.


Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 6 years of Operations Management experience within the Trucking industry
  • Exceptional people leadership and team management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong business acumen and financial understanding (estimating, budgeting, cost control)
  • Change management experience
  • Post-Secondary Education in Business, Supply Chain or other related area preferred
  • Above average communication skills both written and verbal.
