They have asked MacDonald Search Group to find a Plant Manager to join their team in Toronto. Reporting to the CFO, The Plant Manager is responsible for the plant integrity and food safety, the products produced, and the plant staff on a continuous basis.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the plant adheres to all government regulations regarding safe food production,
  • Optimize and use initiative on a daily and ongoing basis to execute production schedules
  • Monitor production, plant security, and sanitation
  • Work closely with all departments and liaising with external bodies including government inspectors, auditors, vendors, and suppliers on behalf of the company
  • Manage the production team and streamline the operation,
  • Review new and current product specifications, revising the existing specifications
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing, motivating and directing a team
  • Responsible for health and safety and overall compliance with OHSA plant-wide
  • Assist with investigations after consumer and customer complaints,
  • Report to the Director of Operations regularly; bring forward ideas for improvement
  • Work with R&D to develop new products and conduct testing
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures, coach, mentor, and evaluate production managers and other team members as appropriate
  • Facilitate the smooth performance of any inspections and internal audits
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
Skills & Education:
  • Extensive experience in the meat processing environment is a mandatory requirement
  • Excellent knowledge of HACCP, SOPs, GMP, environmental safety, O.H.S.A.
  • Ability to recognize and resolve compliance issues and deviations, seek out and apply best practices. Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and follow up skills
  • Attention to detail is mandatory as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of food safety throughout the plant and confidentiality regarding production techniques and processes
  • Excellent understanding of English with above-average verbal and written skills
  • A college diploma or degree in a related field is required as well as a food processing background
  • A minimum of ten (10) years progressive experience in a meat processing environment, superior strategic thinking, negotiating, planning, organizational, time management, and coaching and mentoring skills coupled with a strong sense of urgency
  • Excellent computer, oral, and written skills
