Product Safety Engineer - Industrial Equipment

Our client (a not-for-profit organization) has had a goal of making the world a safer and better place to live. They are the leader in creating a safe place to live for all. The company employees take pride in making a difference in people’s lives through the work that they do. They are looking for a Product Safety Engineer located in Edmonton, Alberta. The incumbent will work with clients from across North America, to assist in certifying their products where you will review samples, drawings, schematics and reports to ensure complete safety compliance. You will be in direct contact with the clients, via e-mail & telephone to help their every need. Team members will need to have a customer focus, with strong technical abilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Independently manages certification projects concurrently ensuring compliance with all applicable safety requirements achieving completion within time frames and cost deadlines. Evaluates products against requirements of the national/international standards and precedent decisions.
  • Able to accurately perform evaluation and review of complex, unique or unusual product types.
  • Demonstrates the ability to consistently manage multiple projects while maintaining timelines and budget.
  • Reviews test data, reports and authorizes application of Certification Marks. Prepares and/or signs Certification Reports and Certificates of Compliance.
  • Provides guidance to others in writing their technical reports and can demonstrate understanding of the process and accreditation requirements of reports and certification documents.
  • Provides technical information service to clients. Liaison with customers in the design stage to ensure requirements of national/ international standards are met without compromising confidentiality. Provides technical guidance and training. Answers inquiries regarding standards and legal requirements.
  • Keeps the Product Group Manager informed of project status, pointing out major problems and non-compliance.
  • Has accumulated experience of laboratory testing for both common and product specific testing requirements and can demonstrate an in-depth understanding of testing requirements.
  • Classifies product by use, environment and function. Determines applicable requirements, test and standards. Determines sample requirements for testing.
  • Performs within established internal policies and procedures.
  • Prepares Test Lab Work Orders and Special Testing Documentation that includes details regarding applicable sections of relevant standards, test sample plan, data collection methods and tables, Job Hazard Analysis etc.
  • Provides necessary guidance to Lab Technicians to ensure proper application of requirements and data collections methods are in line with applicable standards.
QUALIFICATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 0-5 years of job related experience; or Degree/Diploma in Engineering Technology with 2 – 7 years’ experience in a related technical field.
  • Knowledge of Standards, testing procedures and knowledge of the certification process. High level of interpersonal and communication skills; customer service skills, strong problem-solving ability; detail oriented
  • Strong organizational, time and project mgmt. skills to complete job tasks independently and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, in a team-based work environment
  • Able to read and interpret technical documentation and create technical reports
