Purchaser - Toronto, GTA

Our client is a leader in their space, manufacturing in the consumer goods industry for retail distribution, based in the GTA. They have asked MacDonald Search Group to find a Purchaser to join the team.

The Purchaser’s overall responsibilities will include placing purchase orders for material utilized in the manufacturing process, data analysis, negotiating with suppliers, and supporting the team. This individual will utilize their knowledge to purchase goods and services at the most competitive price for the company considering quality, conformity to specifications, reliability of the source, and urgency of need.

The successful candidate for this position will:
  • Ensure that all plant purchases adhere to all government regulations
  • Review new and current product specifications, revise the existing specifications, and make recommendations
  • Optimize and use initiative on a daily and ongoing basis to purchase materials and secure deliveries to meet production schedules through the use of planning, organizing, and the controlling resources
  • Responsible for all purchasing of consumables and production materials
  • Directly responsible through purchase orders and quotes for the control of inventory
  • Responsible for pricing and ordering, locating suppliers, making contact, establishing price framework, and advising senior management of any price increases
  • Plan, organize, and control daily/weekly purchasing to meet production schedules
  • Ensure that inventory levels in the company warehouse, production, and distribution operations result in superior customer service levels
  • Optimize inventory levels and ensure that they are adequate to meet the requirements of the production
  • Communicate with Sales and Customer Service Department on current and future demands
  • Ability to factor number of constraints: Shelf life maximization, storage limitations, frequency order patterns
  • Accountable to specific targets, setting objectives and delivering results; prioritizing work and follow-through
  • Report to the Operations Lead regularly, bring forward ideas for change and improvement
  • Support R&D and identify schedule and planning concerns and opportunities
  • Continuously assesses the production schedule and the product being produced and react in a timely manner to communicate potential problems regarding inventory or current stock
  • Post-secondary education in the purchasing field
  • Certified Professional Purchaser or Supply Chain Management Professional designation is preferred;
  • Five years experience in purchasing and/or supply chain;
  • Must have excellent computer skills and the ability to use software applications efficiently;
  • Prior planning experience is required as well as superior strategic thinking, negotiating, planning, organizational, and time management skills;
  • Must demonstrate good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task;
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication skills.
