For over forty years, our client has been creating delicious, simple-to-prepare meals for busy Canadians as an alternative to take-out and from-scratch homemade meals.

They have asked MacDonald Search Group to find a Purchaser to join the team.

The Opportunity

The Purchaser’s overall responsibilities will include placing purchase orders for material utilized in the manufacturing of protein products, data analysis, negotiating with suppliers, and supporting the team. This individual will utilize their knowledge to purchase goods and services at the most competitive price for the company considering quality, conformity to specifications, reliability of source and urgency of need.

The successful candidate for this position will:
  • Ensure that all plant purchases adhere to all government regulations regarding safe food production, ensuring the highest standards of food safety are applied plant-wide
  • Review new and current product specifications, revising the existing specifications, and making recommendations
  • Optimize and use initiative on a daily and ongoing basis to purchase materials and secure deliveries to meet production schedules through the use of planning, organizing and controlling of resources
  • Responsible for all purchasing of consumables and production materials
  • Directly responsible through purchase orders and quotes for the control of inventory
  • Responsible for pricing and ordering, locating suppliers, making contact, establishing price framework and advise senior management of any price increases
  • Plan, organize, and control daily/weekly purchasing to meet production schedules
  • Ensure that inventory levels in the company warehouse, production, and distribution operations result in superior customer service levels
  • Optimize inventory levels and ensure that they are adequate to meet the productions requirements
  • Communicate with Sales and Customer Service Department on current and future demands
  • Ability to factor number of constraints: Shelf life maximization, storage limitations, frequency order patterns
  • Accountable to specific targets, setting objectives and delivering results; prioritize work and follow-through
  • Report to the Operations Lead regularly, bring forward ideas for change and improvement
  • Support R&D and identify schedule and planning concerns and opportunities
  • Continuously assesses the production schedule and the product being produced and react in a timely manner to communicate potential problems regarding inventory or current stock
EDUCATION: Post-secondary education in the purchasing field, Certified Professional Purchaser or Supply Chain Management Professional designation is preferred; Five years experience in purchasing and/or supply chain (meat/protein experience an asset); Must have excellent computer skills and the ability to use software applications efficiently; Prior planning experience is required as well as superior strategic thinking, negotiating, planning, organizational and time management skills; Must demonstrate good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task; Must demonstrate excellent communication skills.
