Based in the Toronto corporate office this position reports to the Manager – Health, Safety & Environment and will be responsible for providing leadership and support for our HSE management system. This includes providing advice and consultation; coaching, training and facilitation; incident investigation and injury management, and any necessary reporting and record-keeping. This is primarily a field-based position with an expectation of ~ 25 to 50% travel to support the assigned regions.

  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure all employees and contractors comply with applicable regulatory requirements and our clients HSE Standards policies & procedures across Canada (coast to coast to coast)
  • Proactively identify plans to reduce hazards and risks to the organization
  • Advise on a range of specialty areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, asbestos, mould.
  • Ensure safety certifications for employees are active and up to date
  • Provide training as required
  • Ongoing assessments and audits of all sites/projects ensuring safety compliance
  • Initiate and support safety culture through empowerment, communication and by promoting recognition
  • Provide guidance and support to regional managers regarding incidents determining root cause and developing action plans as required to eliminate hazards
  • Support and educate personnel regarding modified work duties as required after medical incidents
  • Liaise with HSE Managers and team members supporting new initiatives and implementations to encourage buy in from all employees; to evolve the safety culture within all divisions
  • Attend safety seminars to help support continued improvement within our safety team
  • Produce reports, company newsletters and bulletins
  • Develop and manage safety plans, orientations, risk assessments, work procedures and emergency response plans for field implementation
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
  • Travel is a requirement ~ 25 to 50% of the time
  • Bilingual English and French – verbal & written
  • Bachelor degree or a technical collegiate diploma in a relevant field with a minimum of 5 to 10 years of HSE experience primarily in facilities management and/or construction
  • Current CRSP designation
  • Standard first aid / CPR & AED
  • Fall protection training qualifications
  • Have a broad knowledge of local government Health & Safety Acts, Policies, Regulations, and Industry Standards in particular CNESST
  • Proficient computer skills, initiating spreadsheets, reporting site incidents
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability
