National Sales Manager - Specialty Retail - Hydroponic

Our client supplies the products that support the indoor horticulture hobbyists and hydroponic cultivators. Their products are sold widely through specialty retail outlets across the country. The National Sales Manager will direct & oversee all Sales Representatives supporting this class of trade. The team is under ten people spread across Canada.

Some of what you will do in this role includes:
  • Train, mentor, develop and coach the sales team to become the premier sales team in the industry; become a trusted supplier to all accounts
  • Ensure performance standards are introduced and upheld
  • Ensure team meets quarterly targets for revenue, margin, and quarterly brand objectives
  • Ensure effective annual and quarterly sales plans and strategies
  • Enhance Profitability by providing specific direction on focus brands and products by consumption period
  • Develop sales strategies and programs that optimize sell in, consumption and margin
  • Act as primary contact to key accounts and buying groups and support sales reps in their ability to close opportunities with these accounts
  • Work with purchasing and leadership to optimize pricing, contracts, and margin enhancements within the vendor network for represented brands
  • Be a knowledge expert in the competitive landscape and help to isolate trends and new products
  • Participate in the planning and execution of trade marketing activations
  • Leverage marketing collateral such as catalogue, monthly programming and special buys, clearance opportunities to maximize potential revenue streams
  • Travel as required to all regions, trade shows and industry events up to 50% of the time
You should have the following in your background to apply:
  • Post secondary education and experience in horticulture, hydroponics, specialty retail
  • Experience sourcing, hiring, training and developing top talent
  • Experience coaching and leading a geographically distributed sales team to high levels of performance
  • Annual sales plan development experience, Trade Marketing experience
  • Profit and Loss accountability, as well as budget planning experience
  • Key Account Management or buying group experience
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills, excellent presentation skills
  • Commitment to excellence on behalf of your clients, colleague and reports
