Senior Category Manager

Our retail client is seeking a highly effective Senior Category Manager to oversee a team of Category Managers and to ensure the excellence in product selection, performance and profitability. This role has hybrid work flexibility, with a negotiable six figure salary.

Some of what you will do in this role includes:
  • Manages a team of category managers
  • Improves and recommends the product assortment nationally and / regionally
  • Performs SKU rationalization of categories and works with suppliers to narrow products supplied to the stores
  • Identifies leverage opportunities and working with procurement negotiates contracts, supply agreements and/or programs to achieve the lowest possible acquisition costs COGS for products
  • Develop annual category plans which include current situation analysis, vision/strategy, and specific category plans in conjunction with your team, leadership, marketing and logistics
  • Handle assortment and positioning product improvements
  • Plans projected revenues and gross profit tactical elements for placement (display), price, promotion
  • Drills plans down into seasonal calendars and period implementation plans, communicates these plans to field team
  • Manages product development process for assigned category. Identifies new suppliers to distribute products through CDC and works with Logistics and Procurement in negotiating quality expectations, reduced product costs, with supplier at the senior management level
  • Manages the implementation of field tests for new products and categories. Provides on-going management, evaluation and refinement of new products and categories during field
  • Reviews solicitations from potential suppliers to determine if potential product is viable
  • Reviews competitor pricing information gathered by Division Merchandising Managers and Merchandisers and pricing group and sets prices or approves pricing recommendations
  • Develops cost/benefit analyses to determine return on advertising and promotion
  • Works with Logistics group to forecast product supply as needed and provides information to suppliers or other relevant parties. Works with suppliers and/or other SEI managers to stabilize product supply through forecasting of key products and working with logistics to solve
  • Meets on a regular basis to discuss new product development and ways to lower costs
  • As lead for the category management department, you would own the communication of key strategic initiatives across Merchandising Senior leadership, Zone Leaders and other crucial leadership positions
  • Manages day to day communication of key messaging to assigned categories across Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, Logistics, and other related groups
You should have the following in your background to apply:
  • Post-secondary education
  • 10+ years of experience in retail
  • 10+ years of managing different client groups
  • Understanding of financial methodology to determine costs and to develop annual business
  • Position requires use of mathematical and statistical concepts to analyze information and to prepare financial
  • Position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must possess exceptional written, oral communication and presentation
