MacDonald Search Group is proud to partner with a busy and fast-growing specialized consulting firm in their Search for a Senior Manager, Strategic Communications. Our client provides strategic regulatory and permitting advice and services to private and public-sector clients engaged in resource, infrastructure, and community development projects in Canada and the United States.

As Senior Manager, Strategic Communications you will lead and support key client accounts, support business development and client acquisition, contribute to the growth of the firm and the professional development of team members. Strategic leadership and vision are key requirements across all of these position functions. Reporting to the President, the position is based in Vancouver. Occasional travel throughout BC and Canada may be required.

What you will be doing:

Strategic Communications
  • Lead in the development of strategic communications plans for assigned clients
  • Provide public affairs support for stakeholder consultation and strategic initiatives
  • Develop and oversee implementation of strategic communication programs targeting government, stakeholder groups, special interests and NGO/ENGOs
  • Review, draft and refine Strategic Advisory memos or other written products produced for various clients
  • Research, write and prepare briefings, news releases and feature articles as required
Project Management
  • Work with clients to implement all aspects of strategic and integrated communications initiatives
  • Monitor the roll out of all communication plans to meet client timelines and budgetary constraints
  • Participate and contribute to special projects and related duties as required.
Business Development
  • Source and develop new business and build an internal Strategic Communications division
  • Help refine business development tools (pitch decks, proposals) and participate in general business development as part of the pitch team
  • Develop, promote and support company brand awareness and social media presence
  • Prepare written statements and press releases for clients
  • Contribute to website optimization through cohesive integration of campaigns through all online communication channels
Issues/Crisis Management, Stakeholder & Community Relations
  • Identify, analyze and develop strategies to respond to issues and crises
  • Provide issues/crisis management counsel to the senior management group and clients as required
Who you are:
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field
  • 10 -15 years of relevant experience working with the natural resource extraction sector
  • Experience with mining, energy and other resource industries, as well as infrastructure or community development
  • Experience with First Nations issues and engagement, including Canadian law and jurisprudence concerning Indigenous rights, title and related matters
  • Proven strategic planning and project management capabilities
  • Track record for effective client management and successful client acquisition/new business development
  • Experience undertaking research, planning and preparing communication products
  • Personnel management, including team-building, mentoring and professional development
  • Excellent interpersonal and client management skills
  • Strong persuasion and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
